Holiday Cards 2021!

Just a quick post to tell you I have made my Holiday Cards for this year. It was a bit of a process to make these. At first. my idea was to make them seem like baseball cards. A bit strange I know, but thankfully I reversed that idea. I also thought the border was a bit too cramped. Thankfully, after some feedback, I made this nice template. Anyways, thank you for reading, and stay tuned!

Digital vs Traditional

So this has been a bit of a topic I see people talk about from time to time, so I figured I'd give it a shot as well. First though, some quick definitions. Traditional art is usually defined as art made on paper, a wall, or any physical surface. This could also mean traditional art in the sense of statues, clay figures, or anything as long as it was made physically. For me, this usually means art made with a pencil and paper. As for digital art, this could be 3-D, 2-D, Photoshop, or anything that is made in a digital space, usually in a computer. Now, one could say photography lends itself to both since a lot of the work done with it is digital, yet it physically exists in a way that makes it, sort of traditional. For this argument though, I will leave it out.

Now for me, I do prefer the feel of traditional art. Being able to just go in, draw what I like, and have the comfort of how I hold my pencil. Now that being said, if I make too many mistakes, that winds up wasting paper. This of course is quite problematic in this environmental conscious society, and I want to try and avoid that most of the time. However, I do enjoy the work that goes into making a physical, one of a kind piece..... Then again, I am judgemental of my work. When comparing it to something digital as well, I find the coloring to be off in several ways. However, I will say that traditional art is still a good starting point for other ideas, and can be fun to do every now and then with quick doodles.

As for digital art, it has made waves in mimicking the styles of traditional art. Tools like a stylus help make the process easier, and help it seem like you're working on a traditional piece. However, that is IF you have a stylus. If you're stuck with a mouse or track-pad, that will take a long while to get used to. Now, it is worth noting that if you're making a logo, digital art is definitely the way to go for the final draft. Considering you will need to put it on all sorts of signs, cards, and who knows what else, having a PNG or JPEG of a good resolution file is a must. Now unfortunately digital art does not have that convenience factor for quick doodles like traditional does. You would need the right set up for when you are on the go, and if you don't, get ready for a clunky time.

All in all, I would say both have their ups and downs. I do not have a particular preference, considering both are for different things a lot off the time. Heck, you could even make a traditional art digital by scanning it or taking a photo of it to put online. Vice versa, you could print out digital art and make it physical. It all depends on you, and what you prefer.

Early Preparations

As a designer, you want to make sure you get a head start on your next project. This allows potential clients to see you as a hard worked, but also keeps your skills sharp. Furthermore, it helps you keep track of any big projects you want to do for a certain holiday or event. So in a sense, it is always nice to have a demonstration before you need to show it off to a big presentation. As they say, the early bird gets the business deal with the graphic design firm!

So we have a few reasons why you would want to be early already listed so far, and there is more to come.  Having the ability to get feedback for future reference is always nice, as it leads to better products. Moreso, there is the added benefit of being able to move into the next project, stress free. Finally, I would like to point out that with deadlines existing, you need all the practice  you can to deal with them. At the end of the day, getting work done early is a bit difficult, but it can be fun.

Now with that put of the way, I'll show off some work I got done early. Holiday cards have been made, so feel free to take them for anything other than commercial use. If you have any comments, please let me know with a comment. Other than that, thank you for reading!

In Over My Head?

I'm going to be honest..... So far, these blogs have not been doing well. Not many comments, little viewing, it's just sort of getting to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any intention to stop yet, I'm just starting to feel the drain. A little dumb when I made posts not to long ago about pushing myself but... It's been a weird past few weeks. So I want to address why I think I'm in over my head.

Unwarranted ego

First off, I've been a little busy with my life. Looking for a new job, classes in college, that sort of thing. That being said, I haven't looked towards any creative courses I could do. I also have not really been building things like I think I should. Yet, I also want to keep at my pace right now. Just focus on that stuff later. Sorry if this sounds frustrating, I'm a little fed up as well.

I'm just worried I won't be The designer people want me to be. I'm also worried I'm not putting myself out there enough. I don't know, maybe things will improve? Maybe they won't, can't say for certain. At the end of the day, I'm just feeling lazy, or at least, like I haven't lived up to my potential. I mean, these blogs haven't really been using my images lately.

So, what will I do now? Well, I'm going to try and put these blogs out there more, and hope more people read them. I'm also going to give myself more time to design when I get the chance, getting many things out of the way first. It's going to be a long process, but I will improve. Sorry if these blogs slow down a bit, but it might just happen. With that, thank you for reading, comment below, and stay tuned.
Adding some original contest this time.

Improving in Illustrator

Hey everyone, if you read the title, then you can assume that I'm getting better in Adobe Illustrator! Not only have I become much more skilled in creating on the software, but i am liking it too! It really is a fun, and easy program to learn, and I just want to show off what I created here! So, without further ado, let us begin!

Now, this was just me trying to recreate SoundWave from Transformers. A bit basic, and not accurate, but I was starting out. I eventually took some liberties and made it my own thing. So, not only did it start me out on the program, it made me better at drawing Mechas. So, that's two things I've improved at to capture an audience.

Up next, we have some logos I've designed. Now, the first one was one of my the designs I preferred. My idea was that since the name was 'Destination: Illustration', a compass would be a logical choice. However, after some talking and advice, I went with the other two. I feel it gets my illustration idea across, and it works is both frayscale and color well. I might have to make it my logo, who knows?

Finally, we have The Rock! This was an early drawing of mine that I traced over. That way, I could practice with the pen tool. After all the work, I can gladly say it paid off. So, boom, here he is, now at long last with out pencil marks!

So, that should be it for today. Thank you all for reading. Hope you enjoy my work, comment below on your thoughts. As always though, stay tuned!
